We at Fort Madison Community School District want to inform the community that as we continue to work on next steps for improving our facilities for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all current and future Bloodhounds. One of our priorities continues to be finding a solution for our youngest students that places them in a safe and nurturing learning environment. We understand that the community has a rich plethora of ideas on what next steps could look like, and as we move forward we are listening to your concerns and ideas in finding a solution that fits all students K-12 and the community.
The FMCSD Facilities Committee has existed for years, and has recently begun exploring more creative options for facility improvement, specifically regarding our youngest students but keeping all students best interest at heart for the entire district. Just as families want what is best for their children, we want what is best for our students. In doing so, we want to provide an environment that stimulates learning. Understanding that the majority of area residents do not have school age children, we want to be fiscally responsible and sensitive in regards to everyone as we move forward with the next steps for our facilities.
Numerous options have been discussed, and for the committee and community to make an educated recommendation on this financial investment into our students’ future, the committee has decided that a third party will be conducting a specialized facilities assessment of our two elementary buildings, middle school, and high school. Once these findings are made available to FMCSD, we will work with the community on identifying which options are most fiscally responsible and best suited to our student’s educational needs. We understand that you may have questions and we are excited to share more information as it becomes available.
