Meet Ms. Hoenig, Kindergarten Teacher at Richardson Elementary
Shelly Hoenig is a Kindergarten teacher at Richardson Elementary! She grew up in the area, in her elementary years she lived in Augusta and attended Denmark Elementary, and in fifth and sixth grade she attended Jefferson Elementary, and she graduated from FMHS in 1987!
Ms. Hoenig got her Bachelors of Education from WIU, and her Masters of Education from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. Previously, she has worked at Denmark Elementary teaching first grade, and she has also taught first and second grade in addition to kindergarten at Richardson Elementary. Ms. Hoenig hasn’t always been a teacher, her first job was driving an ice cream truck around town, the “Circus Wagon”, she served sno-cones and freezer treats!
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching movies, bowling, collecting flamingos, traveling, and reading! Her favorite book is The Dead Sleep by Greg Isles, but she also loves all of his books! Her favorite move is Lethal Weapon. Her favorite vacation was in San Antonio, it was chaotic with delayed flights and lost luggage but she was with her best friends and they made the most of it and had so much fun!
In her classroom, they are working on learning the new EL Curriculum and they are getting ready for their Thanksgiving feast! Her goal for the school year is to have each of her students enjoying their first year of school and and to be ready to go be first graders! Ms. Hoenig is excited for this school year because she feels the kindergarten team works really hard to engage the students, and they all are positive!
While she can usually be found at Richardson Elementary, you might also see her at Football games and Track Meets managing the outside concession stand at the Fort Madison High School!
