DECA is a Career and Technical Student Organization, which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA is an organization for students with an interest in the business field.
Students may attend leadership conferences where they hear real world experience and tips from those in the industry. Students can also compete in a variety of ways. They may compete in role-plays where they are judged based on their communication skills through providing explanation of business terms and ideas over a case study. Competitors also are required to complete a 100-question related exam. Any student who has taken a business class may join this organization.

Every February DECA members attend and compete in the State Career Development Conference held in Des Moines. Over 500 Iowa DECA members compete at the conference that allows members to build friendships and network with other students in Iowa. The top three State CDC winners in each event then has an opportunity to attend the International Career Development Conference in April, which is in Nashville, Tennessee this year. It is always a life-changing experience with over 20,000+ DECA members from around the globe. The DECA experience is about students exploring their options, discovering new paths, and experiencing opportunities they never knew existed.
FM DECA does fundraising to help provide the funds necessary to attend conferences and competitions. Each fall members sell meat sticks, lollipops, butter braids, and poinsettias to help cover cost. Much appreciated business partners also help with donations to help with student costs.
