The Fort Madison Community School District cancelled spring sports due to the COVID-19 shutdown. FMCSD wants to recognize the senior athletes who were supposed to compete this year. The boys’ golf team only had one senior, Blake Algrim. Coach Wayne MacLearn shares his thoughts on the boys’ golf team missing their season.

“Disappointed for sure. We only had two varsity starters returning. But there were a few good athletes interested in playing this year who are capable golfers. So, I was excited for the season as were the players. I believe had the season been played it would have been enjoyable from a coaches perspective. The guys coming out would have blended in well with the two returning starters. When that happens anything is possible. Will never know. This is the one thing that will keep me wondering what kind of season was possible. Thanks for asking. I feel really bad for the guys. There missing out on high school life experiences that will never be available again. Especially our one returning senior and the seniors who were going to play this year.” -Coach MacLearn.

Blake Algrim

He would have been our captain this year. Very nice young man, fun loving, and a good teammate.
