Lincoln Elementary recently had a ribbon cutting ceremony to reveal their new Little Hounds STEAM Lab. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. This lab is possible because of the donation by the Fort Madison Community Hospital-Great River Medical Center Community Health Foundation. The Little Hounds STEAM Lab creates a space for students to collaborate socially and emotionally, while enriching their learning of computer science.
This project was initiated by Lincoln Elementary PTG, who applied for the donation advertised by the Fort Madison Community Hospital-Great River Medical Center Community Health Foundation with a Twenty-First Century STEAM Lab proposal. The foundation approved Lincoln Elementary PTG’s proposal and the designing process began. Now, the Little Hounds STEAM Lab is open for classrooms to visit.
Students’ learning is already being impacted by the Little Hounds STEAM Lab. First graders are teaching each other how to code using TV screens and iPADs. Kindergarten students are showing each other how to use the beebots while solving problems. Fort Madison Community School District is excited to have this space for our students to learn and grow.
