Job Shadow January | Superintendent's Office

From the desk of Dr. Slater:

Week 1 of Job Shadow January is in the books!  I thought this would be a great way to get out to more classrooms and buildings…see the work of our hard working employees…and jump in and do it as well. So…Job Shadow January was created.  A sign up was established and any employee could sign up for a ½ day of job shadowing.

My first venture in Job Shadow January was with Judy Steffensmeier who is a secretary at Fort Madison Middle School.  The FMMS office is a busy place!  The morning is hopping with students coming into the building as well as phones ringing with parents calling in absent students.  Teachers and associates come in to ask questions and subs pick up Chromebooks that Judy has individually signed them into and distributes keys.

Judy tracks every child’s attendance, reason, codes and communicates so compassionately with parents.  She greets and talks with so many students and parents by name!

My favorite moment of my day with Judy was just watching her interact with so many people who needed help or guidance.  She is so lovely and efficient!

My morning with Judy showed me not only her ability to do a job at such a high level,  but that she does it because she loves the kids and community of FMMS.  Thank you, Judy, for letting me work with you.  Your hard work does not go unnoticed. We should be proud to have you in the FMCSD family!
