Back to my roots! I began my teaching career thirty years ago this year in a fifth grade classroom. I was excited to spend the day recently at FMMS job shadowing two fifth grade teachers: Jennifer Helling and Jane Santiago.
Many parts of teaching have changed dramatically over the past 30 years. Teachers today are much more savvy with data, standards and being mindful of the challenges (and celebrations) our students bring to the classroom each day.
It may not be well known outside of educators, but the level of planning, executing, reflecting, re-teaching, extending, differentiation, and not to mention technology, makes today's job of teaching much more challenging. These two fifth grade teachers are smart, collaborative and regardless of the topic, put kids first.
