Job Shadow January | Superintendent's Office
What's a TAP coordinator, you ask? Well, let's start with that position is fulfilled by Heather Harter at FMHS. TAP stands for Transition Alliance Program. Heather works with staff, students, Southeastern Community College and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services with identified students to develop positive work skills in order to obtain and maintain competitive integrated employment. Identified students (through age 25) receive a continuum of services for this purpose.
At my recent job shadowing day, Heather worked at FHMS in the strategies classrooms on personal finance. When she attended a special education parent meeting, I was able to work with SCC's Aleena Garr and prep one of our FHMS students for his interview afterschool with The Kensington.
Heather has a way of connecting with students that has them seeking her out in the hallways. She is a fabulous resource and leader for this very important service for kids!
FMCSD is lucky to not only have this position available for services to students but to have Heather as its lead!
